Canada Terminology

  • Building: In Canada, a building is equivalent to a property in the states. When this term is utilized in conversation with Canadians, it is referencing a property.
  • Building Manager/Resident Manager-In Canada, this is equivalent to a property manager in the states. This is an on-site team member that lives at the property.
  • Property Manager- In Canada, this is equivalent to a regional manager in the states. This person does not live on site and typically manages several buildings aka properties.
  • Property Management Assistant- Assists the property manager with their responsibilities.
  • Provinces- In Canada, the different regions are called Provinces. A province is equivalent to a state in the U.S.

    • Newfoundland and Labrador
    • Northwest Territories
    • Nova Scotia
    • Nunavut
    • Ontario
    • Prince Edward Island
    • Quebec
    • Saskatchewan
    • Yukon
    • Pre-Authorized Debit Agreement- This is equivalent to the stateside manual ACH process. Purpose is to authorize Canada Utility Management to manually debit the resident account if the form has been completed.
    • Hydro-At times residents and clients can utilize the term “hydro.” This is equivalent to electric.
